Spay Pride 5K Walk Run

Saving Lives Through Spaying and Neutering
EVENT DATE: February 18, 2017

What, Why and When?

Spay Pride is a dog-friendly 5K Walk/Run and is the signature fundraising event for Panacea Animal Wellness Sanctuary ( with a portion of the proceeds benefiting C.A.R.E (Companion Animal Rehabilitation Emergency) Medical Fund.   Why the name Spay Pride? Simply put, spaying and neutering our pets saves lives through reducing the number of unwanted pets that end up in our shelters, which causes overcrowding and results in unnecessary euthanasia of these orphaned, shelter animals.  Panacea Animal Wellness Sanctuary partners with  various amazing community groups and sponsors  so that jointly we can build awareness of this important message.

This is Panacea’s signature annual 5K annual Walk/Run and we couldn’t be more EXCITED.    What is better than spending an amazing day in February at Kiwanis Park (Tempe Arizona) with your best human and furry friends, knowing that your efforts along with the support of the community will rally to raise funds to benefit those orphaned, shelter animals needing Panacea’s help.  We can guarantee the day will be filled with live demonstrations, fun for all family members, cool raffle prizes, food and beverages to keep us going, the Spay Pride village of vendors who share a passion for pets and generally lots of fun for all!   SEE THE ACTIVITY SCHEDULE HERE for more details on scheduling and activities.

When you consider the number of orphaned shelter animals which are euthanized on a daily basis within Arizona shelters (click here for statistics), you cannot deny there is a problem that requires community intervention.   So, in 2009, Dr. DeCozio,  veterinarian and Founder, created Panacea in hopes that others like herself would open there hearts, donate their time, monbrokeney and/or expertise to helping solve this overwhelming problem of needless animal euthanasia.  This isn’t your typical event where funds end up paying overhead and salaries.   In the case of Spay Pride, Dr. DeCozio donates her time, expertise and surgical skills at no cost, Panacea’s rescue pets are rehabilitated in loving foster homes rather than cold shelter kennels, and Panacea’s staff and workers are all unpaid volunteers.  Therefore all monies raised go directly to paying for medicine and supplies so more animals can be saved like sweet Bandit (pictured right).

Simply put, Spay Pride is that one singular event that determines how many sweet orphaned shelter lives can be saved by Panacea in the coming year.   The amazing business community of premier sponsors have embraced this event year after year.   So now it’s your turn to step up to the plate and  REGISTER TODAY  to make a difference in your community, knowing that your support simply means life or death to sweet, orphaned, shelter animals like Bandit.

Bandit was  rescued from Maricopa County (West) Shelter because he was fading quickly.   As a stray he almost lost his life to pneumonia in the shelter; but today, he holds his head high with his forever family (pictured below) by his side.  Would you help us provide the same dream ending for another animal like Bandit?happy endings
